A sweet little sampler designed to celebrate the needle.  The verse on the sampler is a line from the Praise of the Needle/The Needles Excellency, written by John Taylor in 1634.  I've loved this verse for many years; it was time to use it on a piece of needlework, honoring the little implement of our hobby!  This small sampler is finished with the Hem Stitch.  The pattern includes two sets of the alphabet for personalizing.  I used by initials along with my Mothers, honoring her patience and the many hours she spent teaching me to stitch as a young girl. 

This small Christmas piece was inspired by seven small villages of German heritage in my home state known as The Amana Colonies.  When you pass down the streets of these villages, you quickly note that the businesses, many of which are brick structures, have simple black signs with white lettering for their business signage.  In addition, this piece features the Candy Haus (German for House), it's the imaginary place where Santa stops off to shop for candy canes to tuck in the stockings of good boys and girls.  Stitch count - 169 wide X 113 high.  Finished size - 9 3/8" x 6 1/4".  Worked on 36 count linen, using DMC and hand-dyed flosses.

A companion ornament to the Santa Stops Here sampler.  A quick-to-stitch ornament or small pincushion to add to a bowl filled with fresh pine and snowflakes.  Rudolph is surrounded by his winter-time friends.  With a closer look, you will find a cardinal with a candy cane in its beak...a favorite winter treat of Frosty!
